Search Engine Blues

Search Engine Blues

Writen by David Vero

If trying to climb in rankings gives you a huge search engine headache- then you're really not alone.

Do the whims of search engines have you bugged and looking for solutions to getting traffic no matter how the engines are feeling any given day? I found myself in this boat when one of the biggest search engines decided that using hypens in your domain name was enough reason to ignore your site.

Not penalize, simply ignore. Can someone explain the difference to me..? Being ignored or penalized is the kiss of death for a website as we all know. So how can we find more visitors without being quiet so dependent on the search engines then?

Well, there are several good ways of getting more traffic to your site. A couple ideas that most people don't really use like they should are:

Write a great article (or have one written) then call or send out a personalized email to a high ranking non competing site and offer it to them. Tell them that you are offering it to only them and that it won't be the same as all of the other articles found in the directories. The idea is to make personal contact and establish a rapport with other businesses.

Just tell them that no link back is required. Take this article and post it, no charge. Then tell them if they feel like it, they could post a credit for you and a link back to your site if they want. I found this works very nicely. You'll get more visitors refered from those sites.

One of the most exciting ways is viral marketing though. If you never even heard of the term, it's sort of like a cold that your kids bring home. One passes it to you and then pretty soon the whole house is sneezing.
Same thing when applied to marketing. Only less messy and lots more fun. lol

This approach is just one person or website passing on a valuable message to others..and the bigger picture is one of potential exponential growth of the impact of that message.

I found out the power of using the viral approach to selling products and information online not too long ago after struggling for 2 years to build my site's rankings.

Now, I am able to get my message out to an exponential number of people with the kind of quality information that my customers deserve.

And isn't that the whole reason you got involved with online marketing in the first place..? To really reach your customers and supply the products and information that they need without stressing all the time over your search engine placement..?
